Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 Review

There is simply no disputing the fact that Lenovo is a leader in the notebook marketplace. From their very first model, it was clear they were onto something huge. Now Lenovo is recognized as one of the best makers of notebooks for the professional. Check out this review to see how the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 sizes up against their competitors.

For the masses who love the ThinkPad and could not be happy with the performance of anything else yet wanted a little update in style and features, the introduction of the Lenovo Idea Pad Y510 is perfect. One key issue users had was the way in which the keyboard and case always appeared smudged with fingerprints. The fingerprint problem was easily solved by changing the case housing to a type that had a rougher, more woven feel. The classic styling was now updated in a manner that paid homage to the original design.

Users will immediately notice the increased weight. The new Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 weighs in at almost seven pounds. Yet it is still maintains its portability. Extra features such as the Intel X3100 graphics more than make up for the extra weight. Gamers will truly appreciate this added bonus! In the past, the lack of this feature had been a problem. Still, most of the lower level games can be played by the system. However, hopes are that this problem will soon be resolved. The 250 GB hard drive is an absolute whale and can surely handle the needs of most consumers. Even users fond of downloading large song and movie files will probablly have ample space on this hard drive for a long time to come.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 does have a glossy finish display screen which will give you some outstanding color but also will give you a fair amount of glare. The 1280×800 pixel screen provides a nice, large view. The quality of the view does decrease a bit outside of the straight and horizontal viewing angles. A vertical view provides only a fair picture but very few users would utilize the screen from this angle.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 keyboard has a wonderful touch and provides a great, high-quality feel. Missing is the horrible bounce that you find with so many other laptop brands. This provides the user with a near desktop-quality keyboard. Even the individual keys are nice. They have a good size and the feel of them is cushioned and solid.Another nifty feature is the ‘novo’ switch. With just a push of a button, you can shift your power options between low, medium, and high! This will provide huge power savings for the life of the battery!

An Express card/54 slot is included along with a triple set of USB ports. You also get a Firewire and a TV-out port. The digital media card reader that is provided is another basic feature. One feature that is lacking is an HDMI hookup, which would allow you to connect your Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 to an HDTV. Built into the IdeaPad are some of the best speakers on the market today. Dolby Home Theater speakers on the display models!
